Small English-Russian Dictionary from Svet
Part VII (The Rainbow)
Hello, the name of our theme today is "Rainbow". I hope you don't expect me to tell you about physical/material aspects of this
wonderful nature appearance ;). That is really very interesting I think. You can read about physical aspects of rainbow in this article.
Here we'll discuss that rainbow is very beautiful and we imagine that you want to draw a rainbow.
(Please, send me your pictures of rainbow and we'll have a small Rainbow exhibition here :)))).
So we all want to draw a rainbow and do you remember what colors we need to have? In Russian we have a little phrase to remember
an order of the 7 colors in rainbow. We all know from childhood this simple phrase:
"Каждый Охотник Желает Знать Где Сидит Фазан." (1)
Each first letter of a color in rainbow is the same as first letter in the word in this phrase. There are the 7 colors in the Rainbow and you can compare:
"Красный, Оранжевый, Жёлтый, Зелёный, Голубой, Синий, Фиолетовый." (2)
For the most inquisitive readers I'll translate this "magic" rainbow phrase (1):
"Every hunter wants to know where pheasant sits". (Pheasant is a rather big bird in Russian woods).
Do you have a "magic" phrase to remember rainbow colors on your native language?
But now let's talk about our exhibition. Oh, I already wait for your pictures! :))) I think I must draw one by myself!
So I'll go to a store to ask for some colors. And you can learn how I'll ask it from this table and translate the phrase (2) by yourself also.
Пока. Удачи!
